Packing & Traveling for Africa

In 2019 I flew across the globe to spend 2 weeks in the continent of Africa with my family. During that time, we vacationed in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. We have vacationed many times as a family however, this journey was one of a lifetime. During our stay, we traveled a total of 48 hours which makes me feel like a veteran flier. We witnessed animals in their natural habitat, enjoyed some of the finest wineries, and took a helicopter ride viewing Victoria Falls. For the next few weeks, I will break down our 2-week stay, the hotels, our excursions, and things to keep in mind when experiencing these destinations. This first post will be designated for packing and traveling 12 hours to our first destination in Zambia.

Our Itinerary

3 Nights- Tongabezi Lodge in Zambia

4 Nights- Cape Grace Hotel in South Africa

4 Nights- Leopard Hills in South Africa

Packing List

We vacationed in Africa during our summer (the month of July) and Africa’s winter. Please keep in mind that even though it was the hottest month for Americans, Africans were experiencing their coldest season. Yes, Africa experiences winters and if you do not dress accordingly in the morning it can be freezing! In the mornings it is very cold. A jacket or even a light coat is necessary but come noon it is warm and by the afternoon it can get as hot as 80 degrees. Here is a list of items I brought with me to help those who are considering a 2-week stay. All of our hotels had a laundry and dry cleaning services and so I was able to pack lighter than most.
